What to expect: Extensive renovations, the latest in 2003-2004, have enhanced the Claremont's eclectic décor, ranging from Victorian to hip contemporary. In the lobby, Kentia palms in oversized urns reach toward high ceilings; archival black & white photographs hang above richly upholstered chairs. The loyal clientele includes wedding parties, business travelers, and Bay Area residents on relaxing getaways. Amenity highlights: Spa Claremont offers massage, body treatments, scrubs, skin care therapies, and hair and nail care. The fitness choices are exhaustive, with ten tennis courts, two lap pools, saunas, a Pilates studio, and rooms dedicated to weight training and cardio conditioning. The Mind/Body Center schedules yoga, body sculpting, aerobics and other classes.

The 20,000-square-foot Spa Claremont includes a beauty salon and full menu of massage, hydrotherapy, body wraps, and skin care treatments. The resort’s Kids Club program (hourly surcharge) provides a garden, arts and crafts activities, toys, and games. The hotel also offers seasonal camps for older children.

A patio accommodates two outdoor lap pools, one 25 yards and the other 25 meters; a spa tub, and chaise lounges. A mind/body center offers a Pilates studio and full schedule of aerobic, yoga, and body sculpting classes. A spin studio, cardio room with bikes, treadmills, Stairmasters, and elliptical trainers are adjacent to the weight training rooms. Four golf courses, both 18-hole and 9-hole--with driving ranges—are located within a 20-minute drive of the hotel. Hiking and biking trails are located just off the hotel property.
